Press advertisement is a valuable means of

press

securing candidates for certain classes of

appointment. For others it has been found to

be a pure waste of time and money. Our

ŵe

exhausted attempts to advertise these vacancies

and those of Malaya have proved that advertise-

ment is worse than useless so far as they are

concerned. We have found this to be the case

with most Educational appointments, except

where a post is a particularly good and well

paid one, or where it is of such a specialised

nature that we are only likely to find a man

if we attract the attention of one who is

already holding a similar appointment and would

therefore not normally be in touch with any

agencies such as University Appointments Boards. I might add that at least one Headmaster of a
